Thank you for your interest in Guelph and for allowing us the opportunity to tell you about the economic development initiatives being undertaken by the City of Guelph and our particular interest in the Life Science sector.

The City of Guelph is committed to establishing itself as a leading centre for life science.  Our Economic Development Department has documented in their Strategic Plan a commitment to position Guelph as one of the top two life science centres in Canada and within the top five in North America.  We have made a conscious effort to direct attention and resources into the emerging life science sector in order to facilitate a growing cluster of government agencies, private sector industries and university facilities that has established in Guelph.

At the centre of Guelph’s Life Science sector is the world-renowned University of Guelph, one of the highest ranked and most research intensive universities in Canada. Unique to the Guelph experience are the connections among government, industry and academia.  The links between these stakeholders create a truly dynamic cluster which fosters a complete, continuous value chain which spans from research through product development to commercialization.

Our initiatives in the Life Science sector are not being done in isolation but are part of a comprehensive business plan for economic development in this city.  As we look towards the future we recognize the enormous potential for sustained growth and development in this fascinating sector and welcome new business possibilities and partnerships.
